My Spell Flopped! Why?
You found just the right spell, got all the ingredients, did it at the right time of the moon cycle and nothing happened.... or it wasn't what you thought it would be. What went wrong?
Here's an example: I had just moved to California with my Handsome Devil. Money was tight, so I did a quick money spell. Used all the right herbs, the right candle, did it while the moon was waxing, said what I thought was all the right things - something like "...Bring the money needed - may no one be hurt - may no one die...". Couple of days later - the Handsome Devil is in a car accident. Sure we got a check for $5,000 because his car was totaled but we had to spend it on a new car. Bummer! We got money quick. He wasn't hurt. No one died.
What happened: The spell technically worked with the information it was given, it just wasn't what I expected. The problem - I didn't get specific enough! When doing any spell make sure the words you use are all encompassing and focused. I should have added "no property damaged or lost".
You have to cover all your bases when doing a spell. Don't forget anything. The best thing to remember is this - the Universe, with all respect, is simple - very simple! It will help you accomplish everything you ask for, so remember to ask for everything you want. For the things you don't want - spin it to a positive. Say you won't work with a bossy woman - instead of putting the words "bossy woman" into the Universe's ears - say something like "I'd love to work with a team player, considerate, thoughtful lady with a great personality to make the work day enjoyable." Make sense?
Besides not covering all the possibilities - what else could go wrong?
1. DOUBT. That is the number one killer of any spell energy. If you have an ounce of doubt your spell will not work. This is why the best rule of thumb when doing spells is to not let anyone know you're doing one. Why? Because you may believe, but if just one person interjects a negative comment into your psyche it starts to eat away at your confidence, thus eating away the energy of the spell. This is also a very good reason not to broadcast your spells on social media! I can't stress that enough.
2. Double Check. Did you miss something? Did you do a growth spell during the time when the moon was waning? Did you miss a step? Unsuitable substitutions?
3. Interruptions. When doing a spell it's important that you have absolute concentration and focus. Distractions like kids or pets running in and out of your space will disturb that. Shut your phone OFF! Make sure you won't be disturbed when casting.
4. Have you given it enough time? Even the great and powerful Universe needs time to put things into place to accomplish the goal of a spell. Magick is not a quick fix - ever. A good rule of thumb is give it one lunar cycle. That's usually between 27-30 days.
5. Keep it simple. Some spells are overly complex. This is when it's easy to miss something or feel overwhelmed. Make sure your spell has one goal! Don't mix a money spell with a love spell. You always have the right to edit spells to make sure they work better for you. Never be afraid to make the spell your own. Do what feels right. Listen to your inner voice.
6. Try a new spell with the same intent. You tried everything, nothing has worked yet. It's perfectly fine to go back to the drawing board. Re-evaluate the spell you did - see if you can rewrite the spell, add or delete ingredients or change them completely. Do some research then go with your gut.
7. Make sure your spell wasn't messing with someone's free will. Equally important, don't do spells on or for a person without their permission. Both of those things will taint your spells. Seriously, not a cool move. (I personally don't believe in doing spells against free will or without a person's permission - unless it's a curse - who's going to say yes to that!? You do YOU on this one.)
8. Did you dabble? Don't dabble with magick. You can't expect something to work if you look down your nose at it. You have to practice your craft and believe in it. You also need to know all you can about the spirits your working with. Every herb, crystal, sigil, etc... has a Spirit - some call it energy.
9. Half-assing a spell! Not putting your all into a spell sends up the intent that it's just not that important to you. You need to put everything you've got into a spell for it be effective. This is also why you shouldn't have people do spells for you - YOU have a vested interest in your issue, they don't. If you aren't willing to put in the effort, the Spirits/Universe won't put any effort into helping you.
Sometimes you just have to accept that the Universe has said No. It wasn't the right person, time or place. Maybe it wasn't for your greater good. Maybe there was something better coming and it is already in the works. It didn't work this time, that's okay. It doesn't mean you should give up. Keep practicing. Keep reading and learning. You can do this.
