Simple Rituals for a Full Moon
Tonight is the full Sturgeon Moon. Full moons have always been a mystical, magic time to get in touch with the power of the Universe. When the moon is full it represents the joining of energy, celebration and completion. It's a time to recharge and renew, not only ourselves but our magical tools and crystals as well. The moon is known to increase intuitive sensitivity and psychic powers making it an optimal time for divination, tarot readings and connecting with ancestors.
Burning Incense. The one thing we always do in our home is do an easy incense ritual to clear ourselves and our space and prepare them to release anything that no longer serves us. Depending on the month we've had we use Sage, Palo Santo and/or Dragon's Blood to clear out the heaviness. This gives you a clean slate as the moon turns to waning.
Time to clear and charge those crystals. Crystals will absorb and store energy, periodically it is necessary to clean and re-charge their energy. The light of the full moon is one of the safest ways to do this. Take a non-reactive plate like wood, ceramic or glass and place your stones on this plate so none of them are touching. Place in a window or a safe place outside where they will get several hours of direct moon light. Make sure to bring them in ta dawn as the sun can drain the colors from many stones.
Charge your magical tools and waters. I suggest clearing them with sage first so they are ready to collect the energy of the moon. If you've collected rain water in a jar, leave it in the full moon overnight and you've made Hecate water. Hecate (Hekate) is associated with crossroads, entrance-ways, light and dark magic, witchcraft, knowledge of herbs and poisonous plants, ghosts, necromancy and sorcery. It is a powerful protector of women and children when the forehead is anointed.
Charge your wands, athame, your grimoire any thing you feel needs a magical charge. Again make sure to bring them in at dawn and that they aren't anywhere near sprinklers!
Writing. This is a good night to write in your magical journal and to let go of anything that has vexed you. Take some time to process these things in a safe and healthy way. Don't hold anything back, just let it all go. It's also a good time to add those spells to your Book of Shadows that have been hanging around on slips of paper.
Moon bathing - at your discretion, skyclad (naked) or not, and with your safety in mind - it is a beautiful way to connect with the moon and it's mystical powers. Simply lie down and let the rays of the moon infuse you with it's energy, clearing out the darkness and replacing it with it's healing light. Play some meditative music to soothe your soul. About 20-30 minutes should do the trick.
Enjoy the full moon, Witches! Let out a primal howl and make some magic!
